Shaun Pather holds a Doctorate in Information Technology, is a Professor of Information Systems, and the Deputy Dean for Research in the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa. He is a Fulbright Scholar, and an NRF-rated rated researcher, whose research expertise and associated praxis, have contributed more than 80 academic papers, 2 books and several policy briefs in his field – which currently focuses on the eradication of the digital divide.
Shaun has been involved in several proof of concept interventions to bring affordable internet connectivity to the poor. Among his many practical contributions in his field, as a ministerial appointee to the South African ICT Policy Review Panel, he chaired the ICT Industry Growth Committee and was integral to the underlying work that led to the National Integrated ICT Policy White Paper.
Shaun is also a vocal advocate for the ethical design and use of emerging 4IR innovations.
