Earlier in his career Afrim worked in R&D Submarine & Ultra Long-Haul solutions at BT Labs & Fujitsu Labs respectively. In 2000 joined Nortel to run the pan-European systems engineering group until the Acquisition by Ciena in 2010. Afrim holds a diploma degree (BEng. Honors) in Electrical Engineering from University of Westminster & Master of Science in Optics & Microwaves from University College London in UK..
